Kevin Dewayne Hughes is an author/writer and educator of martial arts, yoga, qigong, and fitness. He worked as a scientist and an engineer at different companies in the USA before becoming a self-employed writer and educator. He currently resides in the Philippines sharing his life on social media.

Early Life
Kevin Dewayne Hughes started working his first job at the age of 10 mowing lawns in his neighbor. By age age 12 he added a paper route, then at age 14 he stopped the lawn mowing and paper route to work for the Washington State Department of Licensing during the summer months entiring out of state traffic tickets into a database. At age 16 he McDonald's to his work schedule while retaining his summer employment with the Department of Licensing. Then after high school he joined the US Army as a chaplain assistant 71M and the US Army trained him to be a medical responder.........................................
After military service, he got his job at McDonald's back where he became facilities maintenance and took a shift manager job at Jack-In-the Box. Later he left the facilities maintenance job at McDonald's for more pay at Arby's doing facilities maintenance. Both the facilities maintenance job and shift manager jobs ended when he entered school to learning electronic engineering at Centralia College. While attending College he took a job at Tag's Trophies doing facilities maintenance and electrical maintenance and repairs on laser and mechanical engravers.........................................
When he finished his electronic engineering degree, he gained employment at Intel corporation as a photolithography technician. His electronic engineering degree combined with his previous management skills landed him the lead photolithography engineering tech role for his shift. He was the fab's shift expert on the Excimer Lasers, Nikon Step & Scanners, TEL Coater/Developers, and Irvine Macro Inspectors. He was also the process control expert.........................................
Intel also chose him to be on their energy response team. He was the leader of the shift's sweeo team that cleared the building during the evacuation events. He was on the HAZMAT clean up team and he was a certified medical first responder. In addition he also taught regular and certification courses for the emergency response team.
Kevin was also chosen by Intel HR to go to high schools, colleges, and universities to talk about Intel and tell students what courses and degrees they should pursue to work for Intel Corporation.........................................
While Kevin worked at Intel he also taught part time at Centralia College teaching assembly language programing; a job he landed because he taught the course while he taught it for credit. This happened because the college had no teacher at the time and Kevin had taught himself machine code and assembly language while he was in high school and taught himself BASIC while in middle school.........................................
Kevin also landed a part time teaching job at Columbia Gorge Community College teaching introduction to electronics and digital electronics.
After Intel
After Intel, Kevin moved to Illinois with his then wife. He initially got a job at ADM as a PC Tech and after 2 months, he moved to working at the ADM fitness center as a personal trainer and martial arts teacher. He also took a job with DMH as a martial arts teacher to teach hospital security and to help with heart patient rehab teaching taichi.........................................
While at Intel, Kevin earned a bachelor's degree in geology with emphasis in astrogeology, astrobiology, clay mineralogy, biogeochemistry, geomicrobiology, prebiotic chemistry, and glaciology. He did work as doing mineral studies in limestone caves and lavatubes as an undergraduate researcher. He was the principal investigator on a mineral study in Oregon Caves national monument and a zeolite study in Techno Nine, a limestone cave and lava tube respectively.........................................
At the time he changed jobs at ADM, Kevin took his geologic training one step further and entered the master's degree program at Illinois State University. Here he added additional specializations, geochemistry, geophysics, hydrology and hydrogeology, and sedimentology. He worked as a teaching assistant and research assistant working on many geophysics, geochemistry, and sedimentology projects.........................................
At the time Kevin finished his Master's degree, the fitness center at ADM ended its extra programs and Kevin started teaching martial arts, yoga, and qigong as well as being a group fitness instructor and personal trainer at the Decatur Family YMCA. Due to time commitment he quite the job at DMH.........................................
Kevin worked for a short time as a coal geologist with the Illinois State Geologic Survey after his master's degree before finding work that paid more.........................................
Kevin gained employment as a fuel filtration engineer with his Master's in hydrogeology. Within a year he worked his way up to director of research and development and he generated several patents and patent application.........................................
During his time in Illinois, he fathered three daughters, Samantha, Elizabeth, and Isabel. Elizabeth passed away and this caused great emotional strain on Kevin. He decided to no longer work as a director of research and development and have more family time. He then took a full time job at the Decatur Family YMCA. In addition to the duties he was already doing, the YMCA had him drive bus for the daycare, be a camp counselor, and be building coordinator (a fancy term for building security).........................................
Kevin eventual divorced his then wife and needed additonal income. Since he drove bus for the daycare but the rest of his duties were at night, he took a full time teaching job at Northwest Christian Campus teaching middle and high school science, math, pe, and Japanese language and culture. Unfortunately the school closed down after one year due to financial difficulties.........................................
Despite Kevin wanting to be a family man. He had to take an engineering job designing test equipment and doing electronic repairs. Here he became a master soldering instructor, master PC board repair instructor, and eventually became the manager of the engineering department.........................................
Kevin met Kimberly Hughes while employed as an electrical engineer and set up to move to the Philippines.
After Illinois
While Kevin was living in the Philippines, he got a call that his children needed him and he went back to the USA to take custody of his daughters.........................................He went to Missouri for this where he took employment as a metrologist. The book royalties and microloan repayments were enough to live in the Philippines but not enough to live in the USA. ........................................While the court case was going, the COVID pandemic hit and threw everything into chaos. While Kevin waited on the pandemic to end and for his daughters to graduate school, he developed additional income streams for living in the Philippines.........................................Kevin is now happily home in the Philippines with his wife and son where he makes his living doing writing projects and educational consultantations.........................................For information on Kevin's Martial Arts, Yoga, QiGong, and Fitness career, see the Tenkidokan website.
